The Iowa Historical Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that is governed by a seven-member board of directors. Formed in 1987, the Foundation’s mission is to support the State Historical Society of Iowa for projects, programs and needs beyond what the Iowa Legislature and earned income is able to provide.
1857 Society
Founded in 1857, the State Historical Society of Iowa has a long history of preserving and providing access to Iowa’s historical resources. The newly established 1857 Society honors this legacy by supporting our statewide efforts to preserve and share Iowa history for generations to come.
As a donor to the 1857 Society in its inaugural year, your contribution will support these key projects:
- Launching the new mobile museum exhibit with different artifacts for another three-year, 99-county tour across Iowa.
- Updating the State Historical Library & Archives Research Center with new technology and refined visitor experience.
- Conserving the three iconic historic airplanes in the museum atrium.
