The Iowa Historical Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that is governed by a seven-member board of directors. Formed in 1987, the Foundation’s mission is to support the State Historical Society of Iowa for projects, programs and needs beyond what the Iowa Legislature and earned income is able to provide.
In preparation for a museum renovation, a specialized crew from Methods & Materials in Chicago is lowering, cleaning and disassembling three historic planes in the museum's atrium – a Bleriot XI, Benoist and Curtiss Pusher, all from the 1910s. The planes will undergo assessment and, depending on their condition, be conserved and re-installed in the atrium. To help conserve the planes make a donation.
Matthew Edel Blacksmith Shop
When German immigrant Matthew Edel of Haverhill died in 1940, his blacksmith shop and tools were frozen in time. In 1986, a team of specialists documented 4,486 artifacts in the shop's collection and left them intact exactly as he did 76 years ago. The Schrader family (descendants of Matthew Edel) has generously offered to match up to $10,000 of funds raised by Dec. 20, 2019.
Please join us and the Edel family in keeping the shop's history alive. All tax-deductible gifts made to the Iowa Historical Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to support the State Historical Society of Iowa, by Dec. 20 will be included in the matching campaign.
Historic places, objects and photographs take you back to special moments in time, help you learn about your ancestors, capture the history of the state, and bring perspective to your life today. Your tax-deductible gift to the Iowa Historical Foundation will support the work to safeguard and provide access to Iowa’s valued collections. Help tell the story of Iowa’s past by donating today.
