The Iowa Historical Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that is governed by a board of directors. Formed in 1987, the Foundation’s mission is to support the State Historical Society of Iowa for projects, programs and needs beyond what the Iowa Legislature and earned income is able to provide.
Founded in 1857, the State Historical Society of Iowa has a long history of preserving and providing access to Iowa’s historical resources. The 1857 Society honors this legacy by supporting our statewide efforts to preserve and share Iowa history for generations to come.
As a donor to the 1857 Society, your contribution is vital to the many programs and initiatives of the State Historical Society of Iowa including:
- Launching the new mobile museum exhibit with different artifacts for another three-year, 99-county tour across Iowa.
- Conserving the iconic historic airplanes in the museum atrium.
- Providing a multitude of virtual educational offerings, including Primary Source Sets to help teachers meet Iowa Core curriculum requirements, Goldie’s Kids Club at-home programs and activities for children and families, and the Iowa History 101 and Iowa Stories webinar series for adults.
- Increased formal Iowa History educational offerings for K-12 students and educators including National History Day in Iowa, Primary Source Sets, Read Iowa History and Goldie’s History Kits.
