Programs & Workshops
The State Historical Society of Iowa provides a variety of educational programs for schools, groups and individuals.
"History Alive" is an interactive and multi-disciplinary program for students in upper elementary through high school and is offered in the fall and spring of each school year. The program highlights Iowa’s history in relation to larger history topics through dynamic programming, workshops and activities. "History Alive" connects to the Iowa Core in many subject areas, but specifically to Social Studies and Literacy.

Preserve Iowa Summit
The Preserve Iowa Summit is the premier statewide annual conference for professionals and volunteers involved in historic preservation in Iowa. Held at a different location in the state each year, this conference presents a range of educational sessions on preservation topics, tours, demonstrations and opportunities to network with fellow preservationists.
A variety of special programs are offered during spring, summer and winter school breaks. These programs highlight museum exhibitions, Historic Sites and other Iowa related topics.
This spring break adventure into Iowa's past with hands-on activities, exhibits and movie matinees! All programs are complimentary and open to the public.

Young Writers Workshop
The Young Writers Workshop is a week-long workshop for middle and high school students offered each summer. A nationally known young adult author works with students to hone and refine their writing skills in a creative environment. Students use the museum collection for ideas and inspiration and video chat with other young adult authors.
