What does it take to create and run a museum? Young historians (entering 4th through 6th grade) will explore the roles of curators, conservators and exhibit designers with the unique experience offered through the Junior Curator Day Camp. Students will investigate historic artifacts, explore the museum's collection vault and learn about Iowa's exciting history with museum staff. Students also will design and arrange their own themed exhibit featuring objects from the State Historical Museum's collection.

The State Historical Museum is monitoring the COVID situation closely and making adjustments to the in-person summer camps and workshops accordingly. Below are precautions that will be enforced for all summer workshops and camps.
- The State Historical Museum has a mask requirement for all visitors and staff, which will carry over to our summer camps and workshops. All attendees and staff will be required to wear masks while indoors.
- A classroom will be used that is adjacent to outdoor space so that breaks and lunch can occur outdoors, weather permitting.
- The classroom is also near restrooms and frequent handwashing will be required. Sanitizer for hands and objects will be available in the classroom and used frequently.
- In the classroom, students will have their own tables and supplies. Tables will be positioned so that there is space between the participants.
