Beth Cody writes that “passionate Iowa gardeners of all backgrounds have made numerous gardens of great beauty that we can be proud of as part of our state’s history.” Join her in this Iowa Stories program for a tour of historical gardens using illustrations and photos from the 1860s through the mid-20th century. She’ll discuss the images in terms of garden style trends and look at Iowa's famous seed company entrepreneurs, garden writers and plant hybridizers. As Cody’s book points out, “Iowans have influenced gardening, not just in Iowa, but nationally.”
Her book, “Iowa Gardens of the Past,” was published in 2020 and is available at iowagardens.com. She lives in the Iowa City area, where she owns a small business, and is an avid amateur gardener on five acres in Amish country.
