Iowa Stories: Grant Wood and the 1930's Artists at the Iowa State Fair  

Artists identified as "Regionalists" received numerous awards while participating in Iowa State Fair competitions during the 1930s. This presentation deals with multiple Iowa artists of this era and examines a friendship artist Grant Wood had with an influential woman named Zenobia Ness and his connections to Iowa State University. The program will also discuss conflicts between Regionalist painters and more traditional painters of the era.
 
Paul C. Juhl has written and published 15 titles about Iowa history, and collected prime examples of early Iowa photography. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Iowa and a Master of Arts from the University of Northern Iowa.
