Not so long ago, five sisters from Marion, Iowa, dragged themselves out of poverty and obscurity to become one of the most famous (and infamous) vaudeville acts of all time. Learn more about the Cherry Sisters during this "Iowa Stories" online presentation by their biographer, Darryl Bullock, who will share photos, posters, theatrical scripts and more from the State Historical Society of Iowa's collections to lead a journey through the highs and lows of the Cherry Sisters' career.
Bullock is the author of six books, including "The Infamous Cherry Sisters: The Worst Act in Vaudeville." His other works include "Florence Foster Jenkins: The Life of the World’s Worst Opera Singer," the critically acclaimed "David Bowie Made Me Gay: 100 Years of LGBT Music," and hot off the press, "The Velvet Mafia."
