Gilded Pear Gallery is delighted to present “Juncture” a solo exhibition of new work by Cedar Rapids artist and educator, Ellen Kleckner. This exhibition displays work in collaboration with materials and partners and features unlikely combinations of joined media such as ceramics/wood/steel/reed actively illustrate the tension between the dualistic materials.
Through a convergence of materials, Ellen’s work uses connections between place, materiality, idea, legacy, and community to lead viewers into the unfamiliar; where materials embody ideas and form becomes a question. “My work utilizes the visual and mechanical vocabulary of makers and craftspeople, joining parts to create whole forms that provoke the agencies of their utility, questioning which is recognizable… Each pairing finds balance within its two-part system; materials become interdependent while maintaining individual integrity. This moment and method in which subjects meet creates a visual narrative depicting mutual reliance to hold the new form.” Works on view are displayed as free standing and wall sculptures, as well as works on paper.
Generous support provided by the Iowa Arts Council awarded to Ellen Kleckner for the creation of this new body of work.
