The West Liberty Area Arts Council (WLAAC) will be hosting its 5th Annual Plein Air Painting Competition on Saturday and Sunday, September 24th and 25th.
WLAAC Plein Air competition is a juried plein air painting competition that brings artists from Iowa and other regions to the West Liberty Community to compete for cash prizes. The plein air painters produce art from life (as opposed to in a studio). The event will include two days of painting, a community reception, and juried judging as well as a Quick Paint Competition sponsored by plein air artist, Carlos Maldonado to be held this year at the West Liberty Public Library on Sunday the 25th beginning at 2 p.m.
After the competition participating artists will have unsold works on display at the Brick Street Art Gallery for the month of October 2022 for public viewing and additional purchase. Gallery guests during that month will have the opportunity to vote on a favorite piece for an additional cash prize to be given to the winning artist.
Registration is available online through the WLAAC website as well as in person at the Brick Street Gallery, 104 W 3rd St, from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday the 24th. All payment will be accepted and canvases stamped at this time. The cost to participate in the WLAAC Plein air event is $30 for two paintings and $10 for each additional canvas. Any medium is acceptable.
More information and the full list of instructions, rules, and cash prizes for participants can be found on the WLAAC website.
