Michael Morain manages communications for the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. He joined the department in 2016 after a decade covering arts and culture for the Des Moines Register. The Ames native holds degrees from Graceland University, in Lamoni, and Northwestern University, in Chicago, and is a two-time fellow of the National Endowment for the Arts Institutes in Arts Journalism. He worked as a reporter in Washington, D.C., and New Delhi, India, before returning to Iowa, where he and his husband live in downtown Des Moines.
