The Certified Local Government grant program is open to those Iowa cities, counties and land use districts that have signed a Certified Local Government Agreement with the State of Iowa and National Park Service.

Apply for up to $5,000 in grant funding to assist in the preservation and maintenance of a one-room or two-room country school in Iowa. In addition to preservation efforts, grant funds may be used for historical interpretation or educational activities relating to the school.

Iowa Great Places seeks to cultivate the local character and authentic qualities of Iowa neighborhoods, districts, communities and regions.

Apply for an Iowa History Dissertation Fellowship from the State Historical Society of Iowa to support historical research on a topic related to Iowa history. Preference is given to proposals that pursue neglected topics or new approaches to more familiar topics.

In the fall of 2020, the State Historic Preservation Office created Iowa’s Rural Heritage Revitalization Grants with funding from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Paul Burhn Historic Revitalization Grant Program.

Partnership Awards are discretionary grant awards, of up to $10,000, to provide fast-track funding in response to urgent institutional needs or highly unique, one-time opportunities that fall outside of the department's regular granting programs or cycles and that align with the department's miss
