    Join us in commemorating the 175 years of Iowa statehood

    On December 28, 2021, Iowa will mark a major milestone: 175 years of statehood. So throughout 2021, the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs invites Iowans of all ages to learn more about the people and places that have shaped the state. Here are a few of the special programs you won’t want to miss:

    The State Historical Society of Iowa museum education team has a line up of educational programs each month available to everyone.

    Families with kids ages 4-12 can join Goldie’s Kids Club and enjoy educational activities every month including at-home activities, camp opportunities and much more. 

    History 101 Series

    Our Iowa History 101 Webinar Series is a 60-minute online learning series focusing on the past lives of Iowans. "Iowa History 101" webinars share Iowa stories and the history of the state through a cultural history lens on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month.

    Our Iowa Stories webinar series is a free learning showcase from over 70 historians and scholars who have shared their knowledge on a wide and diverse number of Iowa topics. The programs are approximately one hour and most of the presenters relied heavily upon primary and secondary sources contained within the State Historical Society of Iowa collections. 

    Local History Activities 

    The State Historical Society of Iowa is proud to partner with local history museums and organizations as part of our Local History Network. Throughout the year, we will feature programs and activities from a variety of partners across the state, including our Local History Network partners who will host local 175th Anniversary activities so you can be a part of it all.
